DAB Peking branch |
 |
In 1905, DAB set up an agency in Peking that was converted in 1910 into a branch. In 1906, the stately office building pictured here with the prominent corner tower was inaugurated. The interior was just as extensively decorated, as receptions and banquets were held here. The rooms were equipped with European furniture. In the dining room there was a grand piano as well as a large panorama of the Rhine, a gift from the company Krupp. In 1917 the branch was closed, the branch director was temporarily imprisoned, and the bank building was plundered. After the First World War, the branch was re-opened and first definitively closed on October 17, 1945. Since the opening of the representative office in Peking on September 4, 1981, Deutsche Bank has again been represented in the Chinese capital (converted into a branch on November 2, 2004).
