DAB Hong Kong branch |
 |
With its establishment on February 8, 1900, the DB branch in Hong Kong was the first branch opening in the new century. Although this British crown colony was one of the most important trading centres in East Asia, the start of business was overshadowed by external events (widespread famines and natural catastrophes). The bank building, already opened in spring of 1914, was closed upon the outbreak of the First World War, and the branch was wound down in 1915. In the period between the wars, despite considerations at several times, another DAB branch was not opened in Hong Kong. However, with the opening of its own branch on November 1, 1979, Deutsche Bank was once again present in this central economic metropolis.
